Destination Medicine 2017 - January 28 The Stanislaus Medical Society would like to extend a big Thank You to all physicians and volunteers who participated in the first Destination Medicine Pre-med Health Conference held January 28, 2017. The planning committee, consisting of Doctors Rosalio Rubio MD (chairman), Krystyna Belski MD, Amardeep Deol MD, and John Walker MD, were instrumental in organizing the five laboratory workshops that included Laparoscopy/Robotic Surgery; First Aid/Casting; Pathology; Radiology/Ultrasound; and EMT/CPR/EKG. This important event, partnered with Cindy Young from the Stanislaus Office of Education, took place at the beautiful campus of the Stanislaus County Institute of Learning on Mitchell Road in Ceres, California. There were 140 students from various High Schools within Stanislaus County with interests of a career in the Field of Medicine registered to attend. Multiple sponsors, including Emanuel Medical Center; The Permanente Medical Group, Inc.; Sutter Health - Memorial Medical Center / Sutter Gould Medical Foundation; Doctors Medical Center; Oak Valley Hospital District; HealthPlan of San Joaquin; Stanislaus Surgical Hospital; Golden Valley Health Centers; and CareMore Health Plan, also helped make this event a huge success. While SMS President in 2015-16, Dr. Roger Lewis MD had a goal of making this conference a reality. And just a short time later, he was at the conference to share his words of wisdom and encouragement to all the students at the closing assembly. The following day, a very nice write-up appeared in the Sunday edition of the Modesto Bee, along with a link to a short video that can be watched online (both have been posted on our FaceBook page).
